When most people think of Christian love they automatically think of being as nice and pleasant as you can possibly be, 24/7. They also think of ultra-passivity. While it’s true that “love is kind” and we are called to “overcome evil with good,” sometimes the kindest thing you can do for a person isn’t very nice, and sometimes doing what’s good for a situation is totally shocking. This is “tough love.” Every believer is called to walk the balance beam between gentle love and tough love.
